Just over 350 pounds of food rescued in October...thank you donors!!
Did you know? Nearly 700,000 of our NC neighbors do not have enough food to eat each day.
North Carolina has the 10th highest rate of food insecurity in the US.
Even while many in the community struggle daily, many local organizations (commercial and private) have an abundance of food, leading to waste.
Per the FDA, 40% of all food in America ends up not being consumed.
Two to three time monthly, KCK makes scheduled visits to our community food service partners to recover unused perishables or dry goods. Surplus prepared foods are also considered.
Recovery partners may include restaurants, private clubs and schools.
As KCK is a registered nonprofit, recovery partners are afforded liability protection under Federal Law.
Based on safe handling practices, the food materials are transferred to KCK and turned into healthy meals.
KCK is a small family-run organization so can remain nimble in responding to both areas of developing food insecurity as well as taking advantage of emerging opportunities that other organizations might not be able to.
We are now working with partners to package, healthy single-serve and family-size meals for those in need across the Charlotte metro area.
With its growing food recovery effort, KCK aims to not only save 100's of pounds of food waste from clogging our landfills monthly, but also to feed 100's of neighbors in the process.
